Cricket, the Way the App Does It
Every April the whole country seems to switch channels. Office groups start arguing about batting orders, and someone's uncle is sure his team will "definitely win this time". The IPL game in the My Master app is built for that mood. It takes the theme of the Indian Premier League and turns it into a quick prediction round you can play on your phone.
One thing to be clear on from the start. The match you bet on is an in-app match. It isn't a live wager on the actual fixture being shown on TV that night, and the result is decided inside the game. So your knowledge of real player form helps less than you might think. It's closer to a cricket-flavoured game of chance than to proper sports analysis.
That's not a bad thing if you know it going in. It just means the fun is in the call and the watching, not in out-thinking anyone.
What One Match Looks Like
You open the game and see two sides with odds next to each. Say one team is priced as the clear favourite and the other as the underdog. You decide who you're backing, enter your stake, maybe ₹30, and confirm before the match starts.
Then it plays out on screen. Runs tick up, wickets fall, and for a minute you're sitting forward a bit the way you do in a real chase. When the match ends, the bet settles straight away. Back the winner and your balance goes up by the stake times the odds. Back the loser and the ₹30 is gone.
Put ₹30 on the favourite and a win pays back a modest amount. Put the same ₹30 on the underdog and a win pays noticeably more. The underdog also loses more often, which is the part people forget when they're excited.
Why It Feels Different From the Other Games
Compared with Dragon Tiger, where you flip one card each and it's over, the IPL game gives you a bit of story before the result. There's a sense of the match building. Compared with Teen Patti, there's no bluffing and no other players to watch. It sits somewhere in between: a single call, then a short wait while you watch the outcome unfold.
It's also the one game in the app where fans bring strong feelings to the table. And that is exactly where the trouble starts for some players.
Head Over Heart
If you're a die-hard supporter of one franchise, you'll feel the urge to back it every single time. Most experienced players will tell you the same thing: don't. Loyalty is great in the stands. It's expensive in a betting game.
- Back whichever side you actually think has the better chance, not the one on your wallpaper.
- Keep one stake size for the whole session. ₹30 stays ₹30 even after two upsets in a row.
- Set a budget before the first match, and when it runs out, close the app.
- When you win, withdraw some of it. Rolling every win straight into the next match usually ends the same way.
- Don't stack bets on underdogs hoping one big result fixes the day.
A friend of mine once put five straight bets on his team because "they can't lose five in a row". They could, and they did. The game has no idea who you support.
The Honest Picture
What works
- Cricket theme makes it instantly familiar
- Odds are visible before every bet
- Matches settle quickly, no waiting overnight
- Easy for anyone who follows the sport
What to watch
- Results come from the in-app match, not real fixtures
- Team loyalty leads to poor bets
- Underdog payouts tempt bigger stakes
- Quick matches mean spending adds up fast
Money In, Money Out
The IPL game uses rupees. You deposit through UPI, a payments app or netbanking, and withdraw by the same route. Many withdrawals come through in a few minutes, though first-time KYC or a bank delay can make them slower. New players have been offered a ₹149 welcome bonus to try a couple of matches before depositing. Check the current terms in the app, since offers change.
Real-money gaming is only for people 18 and over. Each state in India has its own rules on online gaming and a few restrict it altogether. Our page on real-money gaming and the law in India is worth reading first. And if you ever find yourself betting to recover losses, stop and gamble responsibly.
For the full rules, the market types and how odds convert into returns, see the IPL how-to-play guide. We've also written a longer blog piece, the IPL cricket prediction guide, which covers the APK and cricket prediction in more depth.
Getting the App
There's no separate IPL download. The game comes inside the single My Master Teen Patti app along with 33-plus other games, so you install once. The APK is around 82 MB. It isn't on the Play Store, so Android will ask whether you want to allow installs from unknown sources. Say yes for the browser you downloaded with, finish the install, and turn the setting off later if you prefer.
If cricket is your thing but you'd rather spin than predict, Cricket Heroes is the cricket-themed slot in the same app.
